Ongoing engagement in research is a cornerstone of the chemistry PhD program. All scholars enroll in research credit every semester except for the first semester of the first year, as follows:
- CHEM 599R = research learning and progress prior to candidacy
- CHEM 799R = research learning and progress after candidacy
Research learning should be guided by the syllabus for the applicable course. The Instructor of Record is the Director of Graduate Studies.
Scholars are required to receive an “S” grade in CHEM 599R/799R to progress in the chemistry PhD program.
- If a scholar does not receive an “S” grade, they will be placed on probation. The scholar must receive a satisfactory research grade in the following semester and avoid being placed on probation for any other reason in order to return to good standing.
