4.3 Professional Development Support (PDS)

Professional Development Support (PDS) funding is a program managed by the Laney Graduate School. Chemistry provides limited support for this program and scholars are advised to carefully review and follow LGS guidance. The following is provided as a useful reference but does not alter or replace any LGS guidance.

– Step 1 –

Apply for PDS funds following all LGS guidelines. Funding is not guarenteed and is not, in most cases, available retroactively.

    – Step 2 –

Request funds if your PDS application is approved by forwarding your funding email to the graduate program coordinator and confirming which of the following options you prefer:

    • Regular Mail: Please confirm the address listed in your OPUS account and state the address in your email to the program coordinator. You can update your address list by logging into OPUS. Please complete the SIF (supplier information form) and include it in your email to the program coordinator.
    • Direct Deposit: Please complete the SIF (supplier information form) and include it in your email to the program coordinator.
    • Pick-Up: If needed (determined on a case-by-case basis) you may be able to pick up a physical check from 1599 Clifton Road.

Of note: International students will need to submit copy of their VISA, I-94, and Passport and a W-8BEN Form in addition to the SIF.

    – Step 3 –

Submit a report and return any unused funds after you complete the PDS-funded activity. Reports are generally due within 30 days of the conclusion of the funded activity. Requests for future PDS funds may be denied if a report is not submitted.
