1.4 Communication guidance

Email is the primary means of communication between chemistry faculty, staff, and students in the chemistry PhD program. Official communications from the graduate program are sent to scholar’s emory.edu email address.

  • Take note: Scholars are required to review emails from the PhD program within one business day.
  • Group norms: Individual research groups may use other methods of communication. Scholars are expected to understand and adhere to the communication norms of the research group you join.

Read your digest: Departmental events and announcements relevant to chemistry graduate scholars are shared in an email digest that goes out on a weekly basis during the Fall and Spring semesters and as-needed during the summer. Scholars are automatically subscribed to this digest during their enrollment in the PhD program.

Subscribe to the calendar: Events of interest in the department, including weekly seminars, are posted on the Trumba calendar that appears on the front page of chemistry.emory.edu

Share your milestones: The following chemistry milestones are “open door”, meaning that scholars are required to advertise the time and place of the event publicly via the Trumba calendar so that anyone may attend:

  • Third Year Milestone (proposal presentation portion)
  • Fourth Year Milestone
  • Dissertation Defense

Events must be advertised at least one week in advance. An unadvertised defense or milestone will be considered incomplete.
